Throughout most of Jim’s 35 years of life, there is a part of him that that believes in a way that he isn’t “good enough”. As this thought is often dominant in his mind, he thinks about previous situations that made him feel this way which in turn, justifies and defends his current thoughts. As he continues to identify with the negative beliefs, he begins to say to himself, “This is just how I am” and his everyday behavior begins to reflect his inner suffering.   People often end up seeing a hypnotist after trying many other traditional methods to quit bad habits or to simply feel better as they search for ways to switch on the light of possibilities, lifting the fog from their own world view. They continue to seek an outside source for change or happiness and fail to find it because in all reality, it is within. It’s already inside you.

“Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakens” – Carl Jung

When the focus and belief is on the negative thoughts in the mind, it becomes difficult to see the positive. The hypnotist guides one to the realization of self efficacy, to those resource states within in order to create change for ones self. To change limiting beliefs and habits. And this reveals the secret about hypnosis- You are already in a state of trance.   Many don’t realize that they have already, unknowingly, “hypnotized” themselves into believing these thought patterns. Wherever these thoughts originated, once we identify and accept  them, it becomes the suggestion that we offered ourselves by means of self hypnosis. You’re already doing self hypnosis and a good hypnotist can show you how to do it better. Ultimately, the hypnotist is de-hypnotizing one from these negative trance states.   What are some things we can do to avoid negative programming of the self?

  • Learn to quiet the mind. Its not necessary to analyze and interpret everything all the time. Be still, in the moment.
  • Be aware of the thought. Thoughts become things but are not real in of themselves. Recognize that thoughts come and go. Choose your focus.
  • Ask yourself objectively, “Is it true“? Not how you feel about it but is it a factually true and valid internal statement?
  • Be aware of chasing the thoughts down the rabbit hole. Notice how we can create stories around the initial thought. We may begin to see the pattern of following the thoughts to other negative thoughts. Intentionally bring yourself into the present moment. We can learn do this with self hypnosis, mindfulness, meditation, yoga, etc.
  • If you really struggle, find someone that can help you help yourself. Councillors, family, friends, clergy and of course, a good Hypnotist.
